For the fifth consecutive year, The City of Montreal’s Executive Committee has organized a Graffiti cleaningcampaign; a cleanup operation to remove graffiti on public and private buildings.
For the occasion, the City of Montreal asked Solutions-Graffiti to lend a hand in demonstrating the best methods used to clean graffiti.
According to Michael Applebaum, Vice-Chairman of the Executive Committee and responsible services to citizens, efforts to reduce graffiti have been successful thus far, noting the gradual reduction of recidivism. (Watch the video on Radio-Canada)
Since 2006, more than 7,000,000 square feet of graffiti have been cleaned in Montreal, the equivalent of 130 football fields. In 2010 alone, Montreal plans to eliminate 1,600,000 square feet of graffiti on public and private buildings. The city of Montreal has been said to invest nearly $3 million in this initiative.
For its part, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) spends an equal amount for the removal of graffiti in and on subway stations, bus shelters and buses.
The Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grace borough alone spends more than $ 800,000 per year for cleaning and graffiti removal, when taking into account its prevention and advocacy programs.
Solutions Graffiti is very proud and honoured to have been invited to participate in the city of Montreal’s event.
