Last year, the monument had been vandalized by a teenager, who was later caught (by a soldier, no less).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Understandably, the incident has angered city officials, local residents and members of the Canadian Armed Forces.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The cenotaph &#8211;\u00a0<em><a title=\"Monument aux braves de Notre-Dame-de-Grace sur Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Monument_aux_braves_de_N.D.G.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Monument aux braves de Notre-Dame-de-Gr\u00e2ce<\/a><\/em>\u00a0&#8211; is in Notre-Dame-de-Grace Park, where, ironically, a new festival aimed at promoting legal graffiti art among youth &#8211; the\u00a0<strong><em>Hip Hop You Can\u2019t Stop festival<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; had been held only 24 hours prior. How unfortunate that an act as irresponsible as defacing a war memorial might reflect negatively on an event which has otherwise been received positively.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is a tremendous lack of respect<\/strong>\u00a0for Canadian soldiers and their families, in addition to being a criminal act.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>It also highlights the importance of the work being done<\/strong>\u00a0by the C\u00f4te-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grace borough, and\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Prevention NDG\" href=\"http:\/\/www.preventionndg.org\/index.php?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prevention NDG<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(the non-profit organization managing several community improvement initiatives, including the lauded graffiti removal program), to combat the graffiti problem which has become a concern for several of the citizens in the community.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0 *Special thanks to Robert for providing the correct information about the monument.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A monument commemorating Canadian soldiers\u00a0who fell during the first and second world wars, and the Korean war was covered with graffiti for the second time since the summer of 2010.
